Taman Ayun Temple is a Royal temple belong to royal family of Menguwi, this temple still use has worshiping places for part of the royal family of Menguwi Kingdom. In actual propose this temple is representative from some of the temple which has around Bali island, such as; Besakih, Ulundanu Batur, UlunDanu Beratan, Batukaru and many other temples. With that reason the King “Ida Cokorde Sakti Belambangan decide to build the Temple of Taman Ayun, it was in 1627 Balinese Caka Calendar. The temple was surrounded by water, from the entrance and event inside the temple area also. Beside that, the temple also dedicated to worship the royal ancestors who find their rest in a special shrine known as Gedong Paibon.
Taman Ayun Temple also following the pattern of the most Balinese temple which are also has three connecting levels, from the firs lower part name is nista mandala enter trough the gate called Candi Bentar, then the second part name is Madya Mandala also entered from the Candi Bentar, the last on the third part name Utama Mandala and has Kori Agung this is the highers part, the reach is following of three hitakarana Balinese Philosophy.
Taman Ayun Temple was abandoned during the rule of victorious Badung Kingdom. it was restored in the year 1911 AD when part of Royal Family returned to their family seat at Menguwi. Once temple was demaged in many of the existing building due to a violent earth quake last on January 20, 1917 then soon preservation has been performed to made the temple to its authentic condition.
Taman Ayun Temple has choice by the UNISCO as the HERITAGE Temple in year 2002.
